A FMNC north/south selection will again play the Newcastle Jets in a trial game in Port Macquarie on Tuesday July 17.
The two sides will have a half each against the Jets. This was the format successfully used for the 2017 match.
Four Port United players, Eli Wade, Jack Pilgrim, Matt Broderick and Matt Bale have been selected for the northern side alongside Port Saints trio Sam Bailey, Tye Marchant and Anthony Jamieson.
I think it could become a highlight of the season.
- FMNC chairman Mike Parsons
The northern team will be coached by Port United coach Nathan Wade with Macleay Valley Rangers, Kempsey Saints and Wauchope also represented in the side.
FMNC chairman Mike Parsons believes a north/south game could be played annually without disrupting the competition.
He said the proposal has been discussed at board level.
“We’d play the game mid-week, probably using the Zone Field at Taree,’’ he said.
“I think it could become a highlight of the season and a bit of bragging rights for the winning side. It would also give our players the chance to play representative football.’’
