Readers have expressed sadness for the animal’s demise, while one has speculated that the whale has been dead for sometime given the apparent distortion of the carcass.
There have been reports that great white sharks could be seen clearly in the nearby waters.
The whale is understood to have come ashore some 10 kilometres south of Crescent Head in the Limeburners Creek National Park.
The carcass washed ashore on Nobbys Beach posing a disposal problem for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
The whale was buried in the sand before being exhumed after community outrage over environmental issues and the rotting animal would be a beckon for sharks.
More than 30,000 whales are expected to pass the coast during this year’s migration north to warmer waters where they will give birth to their young.
