Lee and his wife Anya were travelling to Sydney in wet weather on Tuesday, June 19.
Their Mercedes collided with a semi trailer about one kilometre from Newcastle.
Lee said it’s a reminder to everyone to be cautious on the roads and to invest in safety.
“Don’t be a tight-arse when it comes to safety,” he said.
“I know as I’ve been one in the past but you can’t put a price on your life or others.”
Lee said they were told by a traffic controller that if they hadn’t been in a Mercedes it might have been a different outcome.
Lee said it’s important to show respect for other drivers and allow enough space between vehicles.
Lee and Anya thanked family and friends for their kind messages, comments and calls.
The crash, Lee said, goes to show that life can change in an instant.
“Give everyone you love a hug tonight and go after what you want in life because life is too short,” he posted on social media after the crash.
