The event was a way to end the 2017-18 Rotary year with president Jenny Sinclair at the helm and induct Malcolm McNeil as incoming president.
On the night six prestigious Paul Harris Fellows were also awarded, to members of the club who have gone above and beyond to help the club and the community.
Outgoing club president Jenny Sinclair said that it was wonderful for the club to recognise six members with the honour.
The Rotary Foundation is one of the largest and most important programs of Rotary; without the Foundation, Rotary could not continue its many humanitarian programs and its efforts to promote world understanding and peace, Ms Sinclair said.
The presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow recognition is The Rotary Foundations way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to the ideals of Rotary and the Foundations humanitarian and education programs.
At a club level to receive a Paul Harris Fellow fellow members nominate someone they think deserves it, so it is very special that six of us were nominated by our peers.
For a Paul Harris Fellow to be bestowed onto someone, a Rotary club must give a donation of $1000 USD to the Rotary Foundation for ongoing projects around the world.
Sue Jogever, Jenny Sinclair, Nicole Oates, Robert Brangwin, Peter Grob and Christina Parkin were the recipients of a Paul Harris Fellow on the night.
Sue Jogever was awarded her fellow for her work with the Port Macquarie youth including as director of the Luminosity Youth Summit, her assistance with RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and Youth Exchanges as well as her work with the Hastings Business Womens Network and the Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Service.
It was very humbling and rewarding experience being honoured with a Paul Harris Fellow, Ms Jogever said.
For five of our members to receive the honour is a remarkable thing, Peter Grob does amazing work orgainsing the Big Dig and other fund raising projects and to be recognised with him was incredible, but all the recipients are to be congratulated.
Christina Parkin and Nicole Oakes were honoured for their work with youth and specifically being instrumental in establishing Hastings Rotaract.
It was unexpected but a real honour to be recognised with a Paul Harris Fellow, Ms Parkin said.
With anything in community service you dont expect awards but rather a simple thank you, but to receive a Paul Harris was something else.
Being able to support our young people to establish Hastings Rotaract took a lot of work but Rotaract is the future of Rotary and for me it was important to see that through.
Robert Brangwin received a Paul Harris Fellow for his long time service to the community and to the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise.
Jenny Sinclair received her Paul Harris Fellow for outstanding leadership of the club during the 2017-18 year.
