The timber decking in front of the Marine Rescue headquarters has been impacted by the elements and will be replaced to ensure public safety. Sand is being repacked under the deck to replace what has been lost due to weather and erosion.
“The works are occurring in winter to minimise disruption to the public, and temporary fencing is in place to ensure a safe work site,” Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s group manager Liam Bulley said.
Work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, June 27, weather permitting.
The cost of the works is expected to be about $8,000 and the deck has been in place at the beach for around 19 years, according to a council spokesperson.
Replacement of the deck in front of the Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club at Flynns Beach has also recently been completed and is now open for use.
