The screening at 8.40pm on Tuesday night will be followed by a Q and A with the Jacobson brothers.
Brothers’ Nest beings the pair back together on film. The title had its world premiere at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas last month, receiving rave reviews with Rolling Stone USA describing it as “a funny, messed-up and moving tale that's part Greek tragedy, part character-driven theatre piece... the discovery of the SXSW Festival”.
The film was partly funded using an innovative new model allowing independent cinemas across Australia, including Majestic Cinemas, to provide finances towards the films production.
Majestic Cinemas is a strong and proud independent theatre chain in regional and rural areas and funding a new film model such as the one used by Brothers’ Nest, is a representation of regional community’s desire to see Australian content on the big screen.
“We’ve decided as an independent cinema chain it’s up to us to support independent cinema and that should start with our local film industry,” Majestic Cinemas CEO Kieren Dell said
“The crowd funding concept that enabled independent cinemas to support the production of this film is just the beginning in a new age of cinema distribution that intends to aid both local production and exhibition.”
Twelve years after the phenomenal success of Kenny, director and actor Clayton Jacobson reunites with his brother Shane Jacobson for what is a very different film.
On a cold winter’s morning in the middle of country Victoria, two brothers arrive at the family home with treacherous intent.
Terry and Jeff’s motive is to make sure their dying mother’s plan to change her will in favor of her husband - their stepfather - is upturned.
It is all meticulously planned, but there is one crucial thing the boys didn’t take into account - spending an entire day together. Old grudges, different world views and a general troubled history will pit these two brothers against each other.
Brothers’ Nest is a pitch-black tragic comedy about family, loyalty and sibling rivalries – demonstrating that even ‘brotherly love’ has its limits.
Written by Jaime Browne and Produced by Jason Byrne, Brothers’ nest also features Kym Gyngell, Lynette Curran and Sarah Snook and opens at Majestic Cinemas Port Macquarie on June 21.
