The Laurieton Fire and Rescue NSW crew was assisted by Port Macquarie and called to the incident at about 10.30am on Wednesday, June 6 after receiving a triple zero call.
Mr King said on arrival there was smoke coming from the eaves and flames coming from the underside of the house.
Neighbours were already on the scene and helped to extinguish the fire.
Crews managed to contain the fire in about 40 minutes, but continued to monitor the property for three hours.
Mr King credited the quick and efficient response of the crew for ensuring the fire did not spread to neighbouring properties
Mr King said the cause of the fire is undetermined but is not believed to be suspicious.
He said all rooms of the house suffered extensive smoke damage and one was completely destroyed.
Crews rescued one cat from the property. Mr King said unfortunately another couldn’t be saved.
Mr King said it was important to remind people to check their smoke alarms, to ensure they are in working order.
