Despite the near constant rain, organiser Chris Whalley said this was one of the best car swap meets they have ever had.
“Come rain or shine our car swap meet is always the weekend before the June long weekend, and even though it hasn’t been the greatest weather, we are still very pleased with how many people have come through the meet,” Mr Whalley said.
“This is the tenth year we have been raising money for the cancer unit at the Port Macquarie Base Hospital and today I think we will raise more than $60,000 which is just incredible.
“Our association with the oncology department at the Base Hospital started because one of our members went through cancer and wanted to help others.
“Of course we jumped right on board and have been raising money for them ever since.”
Mr Whalley said that draw card to a meet like this one is there is something for everyone.
“Our car swap has been going for 17 years and each year we get bigger and better; in our first year we had 42 stalls and this year we have 186,” he said.
“People come back year after year because there really is something for everyone.
“From the car lovers to those who just love to search for a good bargain, you never know what you will find at a car swap.”
He said he just wanted to thank everyone for coming out.
“We can’t do it without the support from the community and also the Port Macquarie Race Club and the local SES unit so I just want to thank everyone for coming out and helping us help the hospital.”
