The warning includes the Macquarie Coast, along with the Byron, Coffs, Hunter, Sydney. Illawarra, Batemans and Eden coasts.
Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities including rock fishing, boating and swimming.
NSW Police and Marine Area Command says people should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage. Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base, via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management plan.
Meteorologist with weatherzone Brett Dutschke said the Port Macquarie-Hastings can expect a fairly chilly night with a minimum temperature for Thursday of just eight degrees.
"That is about two to three degrees below the average for this time of the year," he said.
Thursday looks like another fairly bright, mostly sunny day with a little bit more sunshine than Wednesday.
- Brett Dutschke
"Thursday looks like another fairly bright, mostly sunny day with a little bit more sunshine than Wednesday.
"The day will start with some low cloud and for the most sheltered areas, it could be foggy. Although it should clear by around 9am.
"Thursday will become a pretty bright day with a top temperature reaching 22 degrees."
Mr Dutschke said there will be a southerly change moving along the coast late on Thursday bringing with it some cloud in the evening and the chance of the odd light shower overnight.
It is a fairly weak change, he said.
Friday looks set to be fairly cloudy with some chance of showers but mainly in the morning and evening. It will be the windiest day with winds climbing to 25 kilometres per hour.
The weekend will feature some cloudy conditions on Saturday and a maximum temperature of 21 degrees while Sunday will reach 22 degrees with clearer skies.
