Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's event sponsorship program has allocated $121,000 to fledgling events since February 2015.
Using a calculated economic impact which accounts for visitors' nights as a direct result of these events, council estimates the return to be $9,112,500.
At its May 15 meeting, council allocated $20,000 in round 2 of the program for events scheduled to be held in the latter half of the year.
The events to receive $5000 each include:
- Digital technology expo,
- Beach to beach marathon, and
- Elephant trail race.
A further $2500 will be allocated to:
- Coastal country music festival, and
- Wildwood music festival.
A total of $40,000 is allocated each 12 months.
Cr Rob Turner hailed the program for its success rate.
"The event sponsorship program has produced many successful events," he said.
"It has also launched a number of events that would not normally have gotten off the ground.
"I hope all five events (in round 2) are successful and encourage all councillors to attend.
"For the record, I am not doing the beach to beach marathon though," he added.
