Held annually, Fatality Free Friday has been supported by hundreds of thousands of drivers, who have taken the road safety pledge, either in person, online, or at one of the many public signing events across the country.
This year the Hastings community is being invited to attend a local event hosted by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Charles Sturt University (CSU) from 11am to 1pm on Thursday, May 24 at the CSU campus.
Council director Alex Fisher is encouraging the entire community to join in the conversation and make the road safety pledge.
“On average five people lose their lives on roads in Port Macquarie-Hastings each year, and over 1200 nationally, so if we can all play our part, drive safely and look out for others, we can work towards reducing this number to zero,” Ms Fisher said.
“This year we’ve teamed up with CSU to host a barbecue on campus, and are urging local residents and students to drop-by, sign their pledge on the big inflatable car and commit to driving safely as part of this important initiative.”
More than 221,734 road safety pledges have already been made by Australians in 2018.
Those who are unable to attend can make their road safety pledge by visiting fatalityfreefriday.com.au or on the Fatality Free Friday Facebook page.
