Families and visitors relaxing at Shelly Beach Reserve will soon enjoy new and improved amenities with the existing toilet block to be demolished and replaced.

Work commenced on Monday, May 21 with the existing block constructed in the 1970s to be demolished and replaced with a more modern and safe facility.
The new amenities will be located at the existing site and consist of separate men’s and women’s toilet cubicles, an accessible toilet that will also act as a change room, and two outdoor showers for beach goers.
A new path from the car park to the new amenities and improved disability access to the existing picnic furniture will also be provided.
The relocation of the amenities will also create more green space for recreational activities.
“The modern-designed facilities will improve the visual appeal of the reserve, and ensure a more pleasant experience for beach goers, and those enjoying the Coastal Walk,” said acting director Dan Croft.
“The building design will be similar to the amenities recently constructed at Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills, and have been designed to fit with the reserve’s coastal location.”
Work will take place over the cooler months to minimise the impact on visitors to Shelly Beach.
Temporary toilets will be provided during construction, with work to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
The replacement of the Shelly Beach Reserve amenities will cost $100,000 and is an action within council’s 2017-18 Operational Plan.
