It wouldn’t have avenged last year’s grand final defeat, but it was still an important victory as the Breakers cruised to a 28-10 win.
The Breakers led 22-4 at the break.
Mackay crossed for a try in her milestone match along with Nicole Pender and Larissa Ward while Jazzy Wilbow scored a double.
Coach Troy Roach was impressed with the performance although he acknowledged there was still plenty to work on.
“We’ve really been working on our attitude quite a lot and it showed in the first half,” he said.
“It’s always hard when you’re leading by that much in the first half and we dropped our intensity a bit when we changed a few positional things.”
The Breakers had up to five regular players missing, but they will welcome back Nakita Binge and Amy Goodman next week.
“We’ve had a very hard month of football where we’ve had rep players being out,” Roach said.
“We’ve had up to six away each week so it’s going to be testing times to fit them all into the squad when they come back.”
Roach said it was difficult to single out any specific players for special mentions although Jazzy Wilbow was awarded players player.
“I don’t like to single anyone out because they’re all contributing to the team effort,” he said.
“No matter who I say is starting on the bench; they’re happy to fill that role.”
