The information session will take place on Tuesday, May 22 between 4pm and 6pm at the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council chambers in Port Macquarie.
Group manager Maria Doherty said the information sessions offered local business owners the opportunity to understand how the changes may impact their business.
“We’re inviting business owners who regularly dispose of commercial waste at our waste transfer stations to come along and talk to council staff about the changes, and get answers to any questions they may have,” Ms Doherty said.
“It’s important that those impacted have the opportunity to speak to staff, and really understand what’s happening so they can prepare in advance, and communicate with their customers if needed.”
From 1 July 2018, certain contractors using domestic waste transfer stations across the Port Macquarie-Hastings region will be required to dispose of their commercial waste at the Cairncross Waste Management Facility.
“Our domestic waste transfer stations were designed to cater for domestic waste only, which means the costs to manage and transport additional commercial waste from these facilities to Cairncross is simply not sustainable for our community in the long-term,” Ms Doherty said.
“We encourage all local contractors to attend one of the upcoming information sessions, and if you can’t make it in person, please call council and speak with one of our knowledgeable waste officers.”
An information fact sheet has also been produced to assist contractors and residents understand the changes, and council encourages those who regularly use waste management facilities to work with council as the transition takes place.
