Local organisations are being encouraged to take advantage of the NSW government’s 2018 Grandparents Day event grants, to show local grandparents and seniors how valued they are in our community.
A share of $200,000 is available for organisations across NSW to host events that engage seniors of all ages and abilities.
The events can be held on or around Grandparents Day, to be celebrated Sunday October 28 this year.
Grandparents are true stars in our community, devoting their time to supporting their families and friends near and far.
Last year the NSW Government doubled the amount of grant funding available, giving organisations more opportunities to deliver quality events that reach more local residents.
I encourage local businesses, schools and councils to start thinking about what valuable experiences they can offer grandparents and seniors to say thanks for all that they do.
Three funding categories are available:
Tier 1 Grants of up to $1000 for small-scale local events or activities targeted at community organisations and schools,
Tier 2 Grants from $1001 to $5000 for local community events,
Tier 3 Grants from $5001 to $10,000 for large-scale community events targeted at local councils in partnership with organisations and groups.
Applications for the 2018 NSW Grandparents Day event grants program are open until midday on Friday June 15 2018.

What matters to you?
Did you know that by 2030 one in three people in NSW will be over 50.
The Council Of The Ageing (COTA) NSW wants to hear about the issues that matter to people in our community so they can ensure that the voices of older people are valued and heard, and their concerns are represented to the governments and decision makers.
Members of COTA’s policy team will be visiting our community on Wednesday May 30 for an informal discussion about a range of issues affecting older people.
Issues include health and well-being, working life and retirement, Inclusive communities, housing choices and affordability as well as getting around in your community.
They will be meeting at the Executive Conference Room, Panthers Port Macquarie, 1 Bay Street, Port Macquarie between 10am and noon. Light refreshments are available from 9.45am.
