The exhibition opened on Saturday May 12.
Gaolhouse to Glasshouse features works from the Hastings Valley Fine Art Association and is a celebration marking the John Oxley Bicentenary.
The art works represent the era from the moment John Oxley first viewed the region from Mount Seaview, mapping the Hastings River as he made his way to the coastline.
The 46 works presented represent a wide variety of elements from this period of our history; from interactions with local indigenous communities, through to studies of the botany and the stunning natural aspects of the region.
The exhibition also has a focus on the relationships we have maintained with the environment over the 200 years, Association president Bernice Daher said.
“The rich history of the region in terms of settlement, industry and activity lends itself to a wide ranging exhibition and the HVFAA artists have taken to this with great passion,” she said.
Works range from the traditional to the modern in a variety of media and styles; reflecting as they do, an eclectic mix of individual artists and their perspectives.
Many works are based on personal memories or family histories, providing a rich mixture of facts and artistic interpretation.
Hastings Valley Fine Art Association boasts some 200 artists from across the Port Macquarie-Hastings. It caters for all ability ranges and features tuition.
With a wide range of activities available - such as plein air groups, life drawing groups and workshops - members are constantly looking to grow their skills and broaden their approach to art.
The association also manages a successful gallery opposite Oxley Beach, with over 200 artworks available for sale.

The exhibition continues through to July 8, 2018.
