The event starts on Saturday May 19.

Organisers say the event is gaining momentum.

"This fun and moving overnight experience is more than just about raising vital funds for Cancer Council’s research, prevention initiatives and support services," an orgasniser said.

"It’s a chance for the Hastings community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers.

"The ambassador for this year’s event and a cancer survivor is Mike Reid."

Mr Reid said the Hastings Relay for Life is a great opportunity to bring together like-minded people and supporters.  

“The awareness it raises in the community is enormous and the funds raised are a great help to those living with cancer,” Mr Reid said.

Major sponsor Percival Property spokesperson Michelle Percival said it is an honour to be again involved in the community event.

“Percival Property is honoured to be able to give back to our community by sponsoring a range of community events like Relay For Life," she said.

"This is a cause that is close to our hearts and we congratulate all of those people who have already registered to take part in the relay.”

The Percival Property Survivor Challenge is a rope challenge which will have teams battling it out for some great prizes. 

“Teams will nominate two members to participate in the challenge which requires them to carry a 9kg battling rope around the course and there will be prizes awarded to the three fastest teams, as well as the Percival ‘Spirit’ award for the team who really gave it their all,” Mrs Percival said.

Co-major sponsor, Port City Bowling Club, is creating an interactive video booth at the event. You can’t afford to miss the hilarious Miss Relay competition and at midnight join the 5km Glow Run. 

As well as a suite of bands and entertainers on stage, the activities on the track will take place throughout the 24 hours. 

There will be three legged races and potato sack races; Newspaper Fashion Parade and a Scavenger Hunt, and a plethora of kid’s activities. Of course, there will be delicious food and coffee available during the 24-hour event to keep those energy levels up.

The Candlelight Ceremony is at 5.30pm.
