And they turned out in force.
The 2018 Mayor’s Sporting Fund Pycon Homes Bowls Challenge has been hailed a success raising more than $6,170.
The money will be allocated to local sporting stars and future champions to help them on their way to achieving their goals.
Since the Mayor’s Sporting Fund’s inception back in 1999, over $300,000 has been raised and distributed to young local athletes of the Port Macquarie-Hastings to assist them to compete at elite sporting events.
Some of the region’s local athletes who have benefited from funding have gone on to represent Australia, including Olympian James Magnussen and Paralympian Ryley Batt.
This is the 12th consecutive year that the annual bowls day challenge has been held.
