The announcement of the event’s contract renewal came at the launch of 2018 Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events at Port Macquarie’s Town Square on Friday, May 4.
The win equates to a $27 million economic injection over three years for the region.
The announcement cements Port Macquarie’s recently awarded status as a World Festival and Event City.
“We are extremely excited to once again have been selected to host the premier event on the Ironman calendar, and provide our community with the opportunity to get involved in and experience this iconic sporting event,” mayor Peta Pinson said.
“We have an extremely strong relationship with Ironman Australia, who have shown faith in our ability to support a high quality event, over our challenging and picturesque course.
“When you combine this with our 2,000 plus enthusiastic volunteers and passionate community support and participation, it’s a pretty hard formula to beat.”
Port Macquarie has been host to the Ironman each year since 2006 and it is considered to be one of the best triathlon events in the world with a strong base of volunteer and community spirit at its foundation.
Port Macquarie’s Local Organising Committee give back to volunteer groups after the event through donations which have exceeded more than $450,000 since 2005.

Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams made the contract announcement confirming the continued support of the NSW government and Destination NSW.
“As one of the oldest Ironman events, I am delighted that Ironman Australia Port Macquarie will be returning to the Hastings for another three years,” Mrs Williams said.
“Ironman Australia Port Macquarie is expected to attract more than 33,000 overnight visitors and generate over $27 million for the local economy across the three year period.
“This wonderful event provides a fantastic opportunity for local businesses, accommodation providers, restaurants and tourist attractions to capitalise on the additional visitors.
“It is events such as this that allow us to showcase why our region is such a great destination, with many Ironman competitors coming back to the region for a holiday with friends and family.”
Ironman festivities kick off on Friday, May 4 at 5.30pm on the Town Green with the Bright Night Fun Run. It will be followed by Ironkids on Saturday and then the main event from 6am Sunday at Westport Park.
