Hosted at Rydges Hotel on May 18, the ball is about celebrating the work of student paramedics as well as a tribute to former CSU student Jacob Berry who tragically passed away after graduation in 2016.

Ruby Simmons, student liaison officer at CSU Port Macquarie said the ball is part memorial and tribute and part a celebration of the future of paramedics.

“The ball itself is a memorial Ball for CSU paramedic student Jacob Berry, who tragically passed away after graduating in 2016,” Ms Simmons said.

“The Ball is a chance to celebrate the paramedic students at CSU, and is open to all students, staff and Port Macquarie-Hastings community members.”

Ms Simmons said it will a night to remember with food and drink flowing.

“The theme is beach bling and there will a berry cocktail on arrival, delicious food, live music by Chris Rose and DJ Jimmy Laing, a chocolate fountain and much more,” she said.

“We are wanting the community to get behind the event so the ball is open to the whole community.”

Second year paramedic student, Jess Paton said when she first heard about the ball she wanted to help in any way she could.

“I think it is such a great idea that when I found out they needed help I jumped at the chance to help,” Miss Paton said.

“All of the paramedic students are like family, we do everything together so the ball and remembering Jacob is a nice thing to do.

“Even after we finish studying we all stay friends so it is really lovely that Jacob’s family can be apart of this.”

After Jacob’s death CSU and the family came together to start a scholarship in his name for students to help with the cost of studying, and Miss Paton said it is fantastic.

“CSU has a scholarship in his name for paramedic students, and the first-ever winner of this scholarship will be invited to attend the ball,” she said.

“The scholarship this all about helping students throughout their studies and is open to any student who is enrolled in the paramedics course.

“It is just great because everything is so expensive and it a nice way to honour Jacob and his memory.”

The ball is a chance to celebrate the paramedic students at CSU, and is open to all students, staff and community members.

“There will a berry cocktail on arrival, delicious food, live music by Chris Rose and DJ Jimmy Laing, a chocolate fountain and much more.

“The money raised at the event will go toward the Jacob Berry Memorial Scholarship.

“There will be a heap of cool prizes to be won and the dress code is beach babe, boardie bling!”
