Driving past Lake Cathie on Saturday morning, I noticed the water level has risen to the point where the Lake will have to be opened to mitigate the chance of flooding behind the lake area.

The lake will now very unlikely be dredged, and once again the inflow of water from the sea will further erode the lake foreshore, leading to widespread erosion and the chance of the picnic tables falling into the lake as they are almost there now.
The lake foreshore has now been cut off with orange tape since March last year, such is the procrastination of Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and its officers.
Once again we will see that the usual inaction of council and management leading to the cost of foreshore development again ballooning out, subsequently costing ratepayers more dollars to fix a problem that could have been dealt with months ago.
Why did council keep putting off the dredging of the lake when the money was available quite some time ago?
If this had been Town Beach or Flynns Beach, the matter would have been attended to as a matter of priority, however, council seems to think that tourism only applies to Port Macquarie?
The locals have had enough, so one can only hope that come the next elections, we get some decent representation for Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills, if we can get over the Port Macquarie gerrymander.
