Now the club is offering people an extra avenue to buy donated pre-loved books across the genres.
The club will open a book store at Hamilton Green on Saturdays between 9am and 1pm.
Rotary Club of Port Macquarie treasurer and book sale coordinator Bob Cleland said there would be a constant flow of books on offer.
“We are really confident there is a demand,” he said.
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie has been collecting books surplus to people’s needs or storage capacity for more than 20 years.
Thousands of books are donated each year, and although some are not suitable for resale due to their condition, most of the donations hit the tables at the annual Giant Book Sale at Panthers Port Macquarie.
More books are collected than can be sold over the three day event and donations keep rolling in.
That’s where the book shop comes in.
If you missed the opportunity to get good books at bargain prices at the sale in March, or you have already read your purchases, drop into the club’s book store on Saturdays.
Bring along your surplus books in May in exchange for a bonus discount on purchases.
Stock will be added every week.
Let the team know if you are looking for a particular book and they will help if they can.
Money raised from book sales goes back into the community including youth programs.
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie book store, which is part of the Rotary Community Centre, will open at Hamilton Green, 198 Hastings River Drive, on Saturdays between 9am and 1pm.
