In a poor end to the school holidays, Port Macquarie airport recorded 17 millimetres of rain from 9am Thursday April 26 to 6am on Friday April 27.
The heaviest rain fell between midnight at 3.30am, said weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh.
"This rain will remain for much of the NSW coastline today (Friday)," he said.
"It will be very showery, but confined mostly to the coastal fringe. These conditions will likely stay in play till about Wednesday.
"There is a trough just offshore which is adding more moisture to the air and south, south-west winds are also pushing showers from down south.
"Fortunately this trough will start to break down in the coming days."
Friday's rainfall prediction is for 10mm of rain.
It is looking like another wet day, although these showers will be more sporadic and with some sunny breaks.
- Craig McIntosh
"It is looking like another wet day, although these showers will be more sporadic and with some sunny breaks," Mr McIntosh added.
The cooler southerly winds and cloud coverage will keep maximum tempeartures to the low 20s for the next few days. This is about two degrees below the average for this time of the year.
Minimum temperatures will be between 12 and 13 degrees - again a degree or two below the average.
Monday will be the coolest morning with the minimum reaching just 10 degrees.
With possible showers forecast for each day through to Wednesday, Mr McIntosh did say these showers should be 'generally lighter from Sunday onwards'.
"We are starting to see more cold fronts pushing higher which brings more cooler air from the south," he said.
"This change includes an increase in moisture from our oceans.
"There is a strong wind warning for the entire NSW coastline while there is a hazardous surf warning to the north of Port Macquarie."
