The rain wasn’t the only thing pouring down as last year’s premiers continued their successful start to the season in an eight-tries-to-two romp.
Coach Dan Kemp said it was an unusual game of footy played in trying conditions.
“Within 10 minutes of kick-off there was a couple of inches of water on the footy field,” he said.
Kemp admitted it wasn’t an attractive game to watch.
“It was a very difficult day for both sides to play an attractive brand of footy, but we got through it and now we move on,” he said.
“The Forster trip on a Sunday is not the most fun one of the year so we’re glad to get that out of the way and grab the points … we’re happy it’s done.
Kemp said the performance of second-rower Jesse Douglas was one of the highlights in the 36-point win.
“He made his first grade debut, played probably 50 minutes and was really impressive,” Kemp said.

- Port City Breakers coach Dan Kemp
“For his club debut, he was very good.
“Connor Cheeseman played his best game this year and Dan Dumas was great; he had a lot of fun in the time he was out there.”
In a difficult road trip, Kemp was impressed with his players attitude to back up last week’s 10-point win over the Port Sharks.
“Their intention was good the whole time,” he said.
“They were trying to achieve good things out there and trying to do what we’ve been working on.
“It was just sometimes the weather didn’t let us execute as well as we could.”
The boys are very motivated to come up against a competitive side like Wingham will be.

The Breakers coach said they would now turn their attention to Saturday’s home clash with Wingham.
“It’s not the kind of game you bother analysing too much; it was a unique situation where it just bucketed down,” he said.
“We’ve got an exciting one coming up on Saturday; the boys straight away were talking about it in the sheds.
“The boys are very motivated to come up against a competitive side like Wingham will be.”
“I feel we’re close to putting a good game of footy out there because we’ve been below par the last two weeks.
In a successful day for the club, the Breakers claimed wins in three of the four matches.
They won 34-10 in reserve grade and 26-16 in league tag while their under-18s suffered a 22-18 loss at the death.
“It wasn’t a bad day for the club,” Kemp said.
“The girls won, our reserve grade side won comfortably and unfortunately our 18s led all the way to the end and got pipped at the post,”
“That’s two points they’ve let go and they probably deserved to win, just found a way to lose which was a shame.”
