The works, between the Oxley Highway roundabout and Fernhill Road, have been affected by the poor weather conditions.
The current closure of the eastbound lane of Lake Road has allowed for emergency pavement and safety repairs to take place.
The fifth and final planned closure of Lake Road that will allow for the laying of asphalt on the eastbound lanes will now be rescheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
Council director Alex Fisher said it was critical the works were completed in fine weather conditions to ensure a quality finish, and to maintain the longevity of the road’s surface.
“Council is committed to ensuring the quality of its work, and that ratepayers get maximum value from investments like the Lake Road upgrade,” Ms Fisher said.
“The planned asphalt and pavement works are highly susceptible to weather conditions, so the decision to defer the remaining works until the weather outlook is finer will ensure that a quality job can be completed.
“Closing the road today to complete urgent pavement repairs will ensure the road remains safe and passable for motorists until we can reschedule the final pavement and asphalt works in the coming weeks,” Ms Fisher said.
Council will monitor the weather outlook, and work with contractors considering their availability and the impacts any closure of Lake Road would have on traffic in light of school returning next week.
“We thank the community for exercising patience and understanding as the final closures are rescheduled, and look forward to completing this important project in the coming weeks.”
The $2.4 million project will see the duplication of approximately 300m of Lake Rd between Toorak Circuit and the Oxley Highway.
The work includes road widening to 4 lanes, kerb and guttering, improved pedestrian access, signage and line-marking, and an upgrade to telecommunications, lighting and stormwater.
