Port Macquarie and Districts Family History Society staged a Family History Fair at Panthers Port Macquarie on April 21.
Family history knowledge provides a sense of connection and a sense of belonging, according to Port Macquarie and Districts Family History Society publicity officer Pauline Every.
Ms Every has been a member of the group for 30 years.
“I started with very little information about my family and over the years, especially with the introduction of the internet and the records available, I’ve been able to trace some lines back to the late 1500s,” she said.
Ms Every said if you liked a mystery, there was no better mystery than your own.
“The resources available are fantastic and added to every week,” she said.
FamilySearch consultant Robyn Denley said there was huge interest in family history.
“You want to know who you are,” she said.
FamilySearch is a non-profit organisation sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Wyong Family History Group representative Julie Nielsen said family history research was addictive.
“It is really joyful when you find something,” she said.
The Family History Fair was part of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Heritage Festival.
