The grant was awarded under the regional conferencing development grants pilot program and is administered by Destination NSW.
It is designed to help create new innovative events in regional NSW.
Port Macquarie business, Impact Environmental successfully applied for the grant.
Managing director, Greg Freeman, said the grant provided the extra incentive to embark on a new event for the area.
“Our business has been organising conferences and expos for over 20 years, but this Digital Technology Expo is a new concept for us,” he said.
“We saw the opportunity in providing an event that helps local businesses and residents understand how technology can improve their working and personal lives.”
The focus of the expo event is to educate government, businesses and individuals about the latest digital technologies and how these can help in their working or leisure lives.
The agriculture and manufacturing sectors will be important businesses targetted for participation in the Expo.
The target area for participation extends up beyond Coffs Harbour, down to Newcastle and out to Tamworth and Armidale.
The expo will include seminars that give detailed information to local businesses as well as those outside the area on digital technologies. One of the major objectives of the event is to increase visitor numbers to the Port Macquarie-Hastings area, boosting accommodation levels.
The grant application received numerous letters of support from organisations such as Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Charles Sturt University, North Coast TAFE, RDA Mid North Coast, NSW Business Chamber and Port Macquarie Business Chamber.
The organisers are now eager to hear from businesses and organisations who have an interest in digital technology and who may want to sponsor, exhibit or speak at the event.
The North Coast Digital Technology Expo will be held on November 9-10, 2018, at the Indoor Stadium on Hastings River Drive.
