According to travel expert at Wotif, Amanda Behre it was all due to our gorgeous coastline and affordable living.
“Port Macquarie continues to be a great all-rounder family holiday destination, having only just been voted the top NSW runner’s up in the Wotif Town of the Year awards,” Ms Behre said.
“This April we’re seeing strong demand for Port Macquarie, no doubt thanks to town’s fantastic beaches, great facilities and friendly locals.”
Port Macquarie was ranked in fifth place behind the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Coffs Harbour and the Great Ocean Road.
She said Port Macquarie offered good value for families with lots to do for the whole family.
“Over the school holidays there are plenty of activities and events for the family, including whale watching, creative arts workshops and giant lawn games for the kids, as well as community markets,” she said.
“The city centre is a great place for families to base themselves, with plenty of hotels to choose from as well as parks along the inlet bank, which are perfect for kids to enjoy while Mum and Dad sit back and relax.”
Former local and frequent visitor, John Hopkins said Port Macquarie is such a lovely place for people to visit.
“I think there is something for everyone here in Port, from the beaches and the free facilities to the parks and bush it is very obvious why people want to come for a holiday,” Mr Hopkins said.
“Port Macquarie and the wider Hastings area has a lot going for it and I think that is also why a lot of free campers come through.”
Port Macquarie was ranked above Cairns, Townsville, Dubbo, Hervey Bay and Wollongong who rounded out the top10.
