The fluky westerly that had been puffing during the morning combined with the fast run out tide caused concern about how much racing could be completed in the conditions.
A short course was set with more laps, so the course could be shortened if the breeze died too much.
The fleet struggled across the start line and to the first mark, then the westerly freshened allowing the full race to be completed quite quickly in the warm, sunny conditions.
The catamaran division was won on yardstick by Frank O’Rourke on Dino ahead of Tony Kuhn on Stella and Dave Winter on Spica.
Stella was first on handicap followed by Dino and Stella.
Simon Gandy and Eli Watson in Voyager were first on yardstick in the monohull division, followed by Terry Howard in Ratz.
Stuart Symons started with Jaiden Burke in Red Star, but as the breeze increased, he went in and swapped the newcomer for his brother Sean, and they took third place.
Steve Bohlsen and Ed Molony in Splash Dance were next, ahead of Tony Walker in Deep Purple, and Sharon Carney and Steve Couch in Britannia.
Elsa Gandy and Caitlyn Hicks in Sailfish failed to finish.
Peter Nyberg and Sean Watson in Flying Fish did as well after they broke a mast again this week.
Voyager also beat Ratz on handicap, followed by Splash Dance, Red Star, Britannia, and Deep Purple.
Next Sunday is race 11 of the summer series starting at 1pm. Dave Winter is rostered on duty.
