Combining forces in the MakerSpace at No. 4 Albert Circuit, the Women’s Shed and the College will offer a wide range of programs for people at all levels of skill.
Sue English, business development and program manager at the college, said it was timely to be forming this partnership in the month of International Women’s Day.
“We want to see more young and older women feeling empowered to take on construction, mechanical, repairs and creative tasks,” Ms English said.
“The Women’s Shed has a long record of supporting women’s development in the area, and we are proud to be strengthening that program through this partnership.”
Rebecca Miles, chairperson of the Women’s Shed, said the organisers had been planning this development for some time.
“We want to expand our offering to the women across the region, and this partnership will offer a long-term location where we can begin to build some diverse ongoing programs.”
Both parties will contribute staff, equipment and finding resources for all the practical creative making that will happen at the MakerSpace.
Young women and all ages are welcome to come and try out different forms of hands-on work, and there will be plenty of mentors to guide your first steps.
No. 4 Albert Circuit is located behind the college’s headquarters at 77 Hastings River Drive.
