Head coach Adrian Dodson-Shaw will be in Port Macquarie this Saturday to cast his eye over prospective runners to join the program this year.
Port Macquarie Clontarf Foundation director Charlie Maher said the focus of the day wasn’t on “unearthing the next Olympian, but picking people who will drive change.”
“You don’t have to have a running background,” he said.
“We want to find role models from around the community that want to put their hand up and create change.”
Port Macquarie’s Zane Sparke is an example of the positive work the foundation does after he experienced the New York Marathon last year.
“We had him in the program and he’s turned his life around,” Maher said.
“That’s what we want.”
Dodson-Shaw conducts try outs around Australia where participants are required to complete a five kilometre (for men) and three kilometre (for women) time trial.
The coach will then hold interviews with people where they will discuss why they are participating and what they are doing for the year ahead.

The trials will take place at Westport Park near the children’s playground from 10am on Saturday.
