With under two weeks until the Port Macquarie Running Festival, it is time to put on those sneakers and finish off your final preparation for the big race meet on March 11.

The run, in its eighth year in Port Macquarie, will feature a half marathon, 10km, 5km and 4km run along with the Treble Breakwall Buster which combines all the adult runs into a single event before the kids fun runs in the afternoon.
Race director, Kevin Chilvers, said it is all systems go for the day and it is already looking like record numbers have registered to run.
“We are putting the final touches on the runs for 2018, and already it is looking like we will have another record year with expected numbers attending and running in the events sitting at around 1700 people at the moment,” Mr Chilvers said.
“We are excited to have the Treble Breakwall Buster back again and already we have had 100 people sign up to take on the challenge, after 49 finished the buster last year.
“The Treble Breakwall Buster is a huge challenge for anyone ,but it really caters for those who are training for the Iron Man in May or who just want a challenge.”
Mr Chilvers said the day is all about promoting happy running, with competitors starting and ending at Town Green with people able to take in our gorgeous coastline, and said #runlikeeverybodyiswatching is the slogan for race day.
“We wanted to make sure there are events for everyone to enter, regardless of your abilities, the day is designed to be a fun and family friendly,” he said.
“Like anything running is hard, but the best thing to do is compete against yourself, running isn’t about winning and the Running Festival is not about winning, it is about setting realistic goals and going about achieving them.
“This year we are also encouraging as many people as possible to enter the 4km walk which we are labeling as ‘Walk, Sweat, Inspire’ with all the registration fees donated to the Indigenous Marathon Foundation.”
He also said that with over 50 percent of the participants coming in from out of town, the economic benefits will be great for the whole community.
“The whole weekend is shaping up to be great with lots of families and groups coming to town specifically for the Running Festival.”
On the day Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker will start the 10km run, Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peta Pinson will start the 5km run and Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams will take part in the 5km run.
