Captured by local photographer and storyteller Ronnie Grammatica, the #FacesoftheHastings exhibition showcases the diversity of our community, providing fascinating insight into who we are, where we have come from and what community means to us.
The installation forms part of the public spaces component of Artwalk 2018 which takes place in April, and is a highlight of the 2018 Bicentenary program of events.
The first installation, brought to life today, is on the façade of the old Food for Less building in Port Macquarie.
“Large poster-sized black and white portrait photographs will be displayed in a number of visible public spaces as a creative way for us to reflect on the history, and local stories of people from across our region,” said council director Jeffery Sharp.
“Art can be a really powerful tool that helps us to understand and make sense of the world around us, and this project not only makes art accessible to everyone, but also represents the greater story of our community in what is our bicentenary year.
“There are also plans in place to install similar poster sized photographs in Wauchope and the Camden Haven in the coming months.”
Artist Ronnie Grammatica said he has a passion for storytelling, and capturing images of people in our community, and telling their stories in a new and creative way.
“Since moving to this beautiful region with my family three years ago, I’ve been amazed by the proud local heritage that exists, and am thrilled to have this opportunity to tell the greater story of who we are, where we’ve come from and where we’re heading,” Mr Grammatica said.
The theme for Artwalk 2018 will reflect the concept of ‘journey’, celebrating our rich local heritage, the traditional custodians of our land the Birpai people, and commemorates our region’s bicentenary.
“Council encourages everyone to take time to enjoy the display in Port Macquarie, Wauchope and the Camden Haven in the coming months,” added Mr Sharp.
Artwalk 2018 will bring the Port Macquarie CBD to life on Thursday, April 19.
