Our rural shows are valuable celebrations for our community

Local character is built upon years of cultural traditions, and when our much loved shows come around each year it’s plain to see how valuable rural celebrations are to our community.

Just last weekend the Comboyne Show took place in what was another fantastic exhibition of fresh local produce, arts and craft, botanical displays and rich agriculture.

As you drive through our spectacular hinterland along Comboyne Road, you feel the change in scenery, start to relax and begin to explore what is worlds apart from our busy urban centres.

Whether it’s tucking into a pork and gravy roll, marvelling at the talents of our local equestrian riders or checking out the ingenuity of our local farmers, shows, and other local village events, are a great way to experience another side of our community.

I encourage everyone, particularly those who haven’t been for a while, to jump in the car with the kids and head to the 108th Wauchope Show, on Friday and Saturday, April 6-7. Before then, you can enjoy the 34th Annual Wauchope Lasiandra Festival from Monday March 5-25. Later in the year the Camden Haven Show is on at Kendall Showground, October 13-14.

I guarantee you’ll have a great time, experience new things, change perspectives and open your mind to the diverse communities in our thriving region.

Let’s not forget in 2017, we were named a World Event City not just because we host major events, but because we offer a diverse range of cultural experiences, including smaller events like our rural show celebrations, markets, music and food festivals.

A big thank you to all the volunteers, organisers and community members who make our shows come to life each year.

They say variety is the spice of life, and let me tell you – our local shows offer just that!
