LUCKY the city did not require saving on Friday, February 9 but there was a superhero effort of a different kind to be proud of.
More than 100 Hastings residents rolled up for barefoot bowls at Port City Bowling Club, decked out as their favourite superhero, to launch the 2018 Relay for Life event and raise awareness about cancer.
A NSW Cancer Council promotion, the Superhero Barefoot Bowls included 30 teams bowling for a good cause and leading the way for the premier event in May.
The Hastings Relay for Life will be held in Port Macquarie at Oxley Oval on May 19-20. To register as a walker go to relayforlife.org.au.
Katie Mead from Cancer Council NSW said the Barefoot Bowls event was a fun way for the community to support their local Relay for Life while fundraising to beat cancer.
“In the Hastings community, funds raised from the event will go towards our local Transport to Treatment program which in the last year, provided 310 trips for cancer patients undergoing treatment as well as other local programs including the Improve Your Long Game program operating in a number of local golf clubs, the Home Help program and SunSmart program in schools as well as providing financial assistance to local families,” she said.
