Indigenous business owners as well as established and budding entrepreneurs on the Mid North Coast will be able to hone their entrepreneurial skills at the Walan Mayinygu Indigenous Entrepreneurship Pop Up Hub.

The hub will be opened at the Glasshouse in Port Macquarie from March 6-8.
Developed by Associate Professor Michelle Evans from Charles Sturt University (CSU), the project is nurturing Indigenous businesses across New South Wales by offering entrepreneurial education and practical workshops delivered by successful Indigenous entrepreneurs, including alumni of the MURRA Indigenous business master class program.
The project has already enjoyed successful visits in the regional towns of Albury and Dubbo in 2017.
Program activities in Port Macquarie will be led by indigenous entrepreneur and 2017 NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year, and Port Macquarie local, Kristal Kinsela.
“I’m excited to join the Walan Mayinygu team and bring the Indigenous Pop Up Hubs to the Mid North Coast in Port Macquarie,” said Kristal.
“As an entrepreneur I know first-hand the challenges and opportunities involved in starting and growing a business. The Indigenous Pop Up Hubs present an opportunity for local aspiring individuals and businesses to gain insights, new learnings and tools to help grow their business.”
Walan Mayingu pop-ups facilitate local networking and collaborative work help to inspire and hone a wide range of business and entrepreneurial skills, and provide participants with access to government departments, private firms and not-for-profit organisations to develop business relations.
“Walan Mayinygu’s visit to Port Macquarie will allow Mid North Coast Indigenous residents to be mentored by established indigenous entrepreneurs and business people,” Professor Evans said.
“The pop-up hub will offer a week of indigenous learning events including business masterclasses, practical workshops, panel discussions, a business plan and pitch development studio, guest speakers and networking opportunities.
“Business strategy workshops will build business skills, Social Enterprise workshops will assist organisations that tackle social problems, and a Deadly Ideas Pre-Start Up Workshop will focus on starting a business.
“We invite all Indigenous business-people, entrepreneurs, those interested in starting businesses and Indigenous youth to participate.”
Walan Mayinygu is a Charles Sturt University program supported by the NSW Department of Industry through the Boosting Business Innovation Program.
