The Him in Heels event, kicking off at 7.30am on Thursday, March 1, will see men in business wear women’s high heels and ‘walk the talk’ along the breakwall from Town Beach carpark to the Town Green, with their support squads in tow.

The walk will end with coffee and conversation about the issues women face in the workplace, and how local businesses are addressing those challenges.

Hastings Business Women’s Network president Kelly King said gender inequality and domestic violence were important issues to be addressed both globally and locally.

“We hope to arm our participants with important information so they can take it back to their workplaces and have a real impact on closing the gender gap in our local community,” Mrs King said.

“A huge thank you to our event sponsors, the Regional and Agri-Business team at the Commonwealth Bank, and to Michael Percival from Percival Property; Steve Foye from Peak Coffee; Richard McGovern, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and Ollie Brooke of Cloud Concepts who are leading the charge. We want many more men to sign up, show support and help raise funds, while having a bit of fun.”

Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams MP said men who take part in the walk will help raise money for local victims of domestic violence.

“Proceeds from Him in Heels and the International Women’s Day Breakfast will be donated to Port Macquarie Hastings Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Service for ongoing refurbishments to the refuge,” Mrs Williams said.
