Most Port Macquarie-Hastings residents would have reacted in one of two ways when they heard the news of a fenced dog park proposed for The Boom Reserve; a mild thought of ‘that’s nice’ or ‘we’re positively happy we will have a place to take our pets for a half hour of exercise’.

However, I am sure that few spared a thought for those of us that will have to live with the development 24/7.
It will bring extra traffic to already very narrow streets, with no off street parking, streest already struggling as an active bus route.
It will cause anxiety to the pets in our own backyards. It will mean bins full of stinking faeces, breeding flies. It will turn back the return of the koalas and birdlife that is occurring.
And, for those of us whose homes adjoin the reserve, it will decrease the desirability and value of our homes.
I am not against the provision of a dog park; I am asking why a small group of residents should be expected to pay so high a price when there is available land that does not have surrounding homes within metres of the infrastructure. Eg Woods St/Stuart Park complex, Tuffins Lane, Dixie Park or the land above Oxley Oval to name a few.
I am asking my fellow rate-payers and residents of the Local Government Area to let Council know that it is unacceptable to treat people this way.
Please go to the council website and ask them to reconsider the location they have chosen for this facility.
If they can do it to us, they can do it to you.
