THE environment in which we inhabit directly affects our frame of mind.

So when you imagine where you'd be content; your mind may take you far away. Perhaps to the ocean, on a mountain top, nestled in a forest or kicking back lakeside.

Wherever that happy place exists, we undeniably seek the creature comforts that come with it, especially as we enter our later years of life.

Society's expectations and overall sense of entitlement has evolved over the past 20 years with the shift in modern technology and plethora of readily available information.

With these luxuries at our fingertips, choice is no longer a question, more an expectation, which is ultimately redefining and driving the next wave of development in aged care living.

Laurieton Lakeside aged care residence is trailblazing this movement with the launch of their new "Lakeview" wing featuring 22 luxury single suites located on the picturesque shores of Queens Lake just a stone's throw from Laurieton on the mid north coast.

SUITE OPPORTUNITY

Suite reservations open to the public in mid January and the official open day will be held on Friday March 2 between 10.30am – 1.30pm and Saturday March 3 between 9am – 12pm.

Laurieton Lakeside aged care residence first opened its doors in 1993, and has been operated by the family-run business Halenvy Pty Ltd since development.

For the past 25 years, Halenvy has created an active aged care community where service, quality care, accommodation standards and a long-serving management team are the benchmarks to ensure and maintain their envied reputation throughout the mid north coast region.

The Lakeview suites have been carefully designed boasting modern interiors and durable equipment, achieving the right balance of aesthetics and practicality.

Dubbed as the jewel in the crown, the new Lakeview suites, are part of an extensive upgrade program incorporating a complete renovation and refurbishment of Laurieton Lakeside.

This program is planned to redefine Laurieton Lakeside’s aged care living where residents and their families and friends will feel part of a connected community that offers a lifestyle designed to promote balance and certainty.

Halenvy's operations general manager, Tim Cummins said the growing needs of the next generation of retirees (Baby Boomers) are pushing the demand for modern and single occupancy living in aged care communities.

We are more prepared for residents’ needs with the opening of the Lakeview suites. People want their own room and ensuite and we are able to accommodate that.

- Mr Tim Cummins

The single suites boast features more like a new age hotel, with state-of-the-art interiors designed by renowned aged-care interior designer, Trisha Shields who cleverly blends the philosophy of elegance and practicality with contemporary furnishings, fittings and finishes.

"The materials selected by Trisha Shields are visually appealing and the equipment is durable, easily cleaned and super practical – a balance of aesthetics and practicality," Mr Cummins said.

Each suite is fitted with an electric bed, recliner chair, draws and built in wardrobe and most suites feature their own outdoor terrace. Foxtel, telephone and computer access is also available.

LIVING LARGE

The suites are significantly spacious, spanning 23 square metres, with a five sq m luxury ensuite bathroom and adjoining doors can be arranged for couples. This provides residents with the opportunity to use one room as a lounge room and the other as a bedroom.

Mr Cummins said alongside the launch of the luxury single suites, Laurieton Lakeside has been actively reducing the number of beds per room in their shared accommodation offerings to ensure more privacy and comfort for residents.

The Lakeview suites feature the latest equipment in terms of aged care facilities, along with 24/7 registered nurse coverage. Laurieton Lakeside's approach to aged care, takes a new direction in which independence and choice are fundamental to their residents.

Mr Cummins said their clinical expertise and longevity of their core staff unit sets them apart from other facilities and has been integral in building their reputation.

"We’ve got nurses who’ve been with us for over 20 years. When you’ve got that longevity with your staff it makes things very streamlined and consistent."

“Aged care isn’t just about the environment but more about the wider community and how we’re working with allied health professionals like physios, hospitals and doctors."

CHOICE IS FUNDAMENTAL

"We see ourselves as a new aged hotel in terms of the level of choice we're offering; the decisions in terms of residents care, greater meal choices and quality."

Mr Cummins said their lifestyle teams design the resident activities programs around the wants and needs of their residents.

"We're always improving and moving with the times and with the Baby Boomers coming through that's constantly shifting."

He said Laurieton Lakeside's approach to aged care living promotes a balanced lifestyle of community and independence, steering clear of former and outdated aged care environments.

"Aged care was originally created on a hospital model that was very clinical in appearance and setting.

“There's been a total shift and we're fortunate enough that we're keeping ahead of the curb," Mr Cummins said.

"The new wing is aesthetically very different to the other aged care facilities on the mid north coast that have been around for a while. Laurieton is surrounded by the lake and a forest. It's like you're out in the wilderness," he said.

The Laurieton area has grown to be a popular retirement location in the past 10 years, due to its affordability and unique environment.

"Laurieton offers a holistic health experience – it's close to the water, beaches and we find 10 per cent of our residents come from Sydney and the Central Coast as it's twice as expensive in those areas when compared to Laurieton."

COMMUNITY FEEL

Laurieton Lakeside's upgrade program will focus on connecting residents of the community with a diverse selection of activities that embrace their surroundings that encourage both one-on-one or group participation.

Some of these include: nature walks, community outings to the theatre, Tai Chi, gardening, computer classes, arts and crafts, poetry and pet therapy to name a few.
