There had never been a ‘Mayor of Shelly Beach’ until I handed Harry that unofficial title in a daily column I wrote for a Sydney newspaper in January 1984. It stuck!
Harry joined the likes of Stanley Wong who I had previously dubbed the ‘Mayor Sydney’s Chinatown’ and Harold Hodges the ‘Mayor of Lightning Ridge.’
Some folks have already tried to commandeer Harry’s great artistic creation, the Thong Tree.
