Letter: Release of balloons ‘environmental pollution’

Please don't release balloons as a way to commemorate or celebrate anything.

It appears it is actually illegal in NSW.

Doing so is a significant contribution to environmental pollution and endangers marine life.

If the fact is it is illegal then why are news sites reporting this in any manner other than remarking on its illegality?

I would have thought that news sites certainly should not be seen to be promoting it as a way to celebrate anything, let alone aggrandizing it thus allowing others to think they can do the same.

Regardless, it makes no sense to contribute to pollution and the endangerment of animal life, by releasing plastic up into the air.

Find another way to mark or celebrate events.
