Thomas Simpson, 20, pleaded guilty to negligent driving occasioning death and grievous bodily harm.
He was sentenced in Sydney to a two year good behaviour bond.
The accident occurred on September 28 south of Port Macquarie at Heron’s Creek when a van, driven by Mr Simpson, pulled out on to the Pacific Highway and collided with another vehicle.
Killed in the accident was 16-year-old Jade Finn of Lake Macquarie who was travelling north in the car with five other family members.
The car swerved and rolled several times. Young Jade was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
