Brave town leaders, including Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor Peta Pinson, will face their fears and head nine storeys down the north facing wall of Rydges.
It is not only a way to raise important funds but for the leapers to reflect on what it feels like to place their lives into someone else’s hands, not unlike being handed over to the crew at the Westpac helicopter in an emergency.
Mrs Pinson said she has a fear of heights but will happily conquer them in the name of fund raising and awareness.
“I’m out of my comfort zone, and I can’t say I’m looking forward to the leap, but that’s what life’s about,” she said.
“Am I looking forward to it? I am with some anticipation. It’s for a great cause, raising money for an amazing organisation so I am totally behind it.
“The recent incidents involving the helicopter show how vital the service is to our area and how much they need these funds and the awareness.”
