Port Macquarie is one of the fastest growing areas in NSW. No longer just attracting retirees, families are flocking here for the great schools and friendly communities.
Across Australia, it is the fourth most searched for town on domain.com.au.
Demand is not just from home-buyers but those looking for a great investment. Most price ranges are selling fast and occasionally sight-unseen. It’s certainly a seller’s market.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Council area population is forecasted to grow to 102,926 by 2036, over 28% increase.
To meet demand, new homes are springing up, including some beautifully planned new communities at Sovereign Hills, Crestwood and Ascot Park.
Port Macquarie’s housing prices are continuing to increase despite national regional prices easing.
Domain Chief Economist, Dr Andrew Wilson, said that while house prices in regional Australia had eased in the September quarter, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour were notable exceptions, bucking the trend.
“There have been some big movements in regional Australian property this quarter, with local economic strength continuing to impact price growth and deliver mixed results across the nation,” Dr Wilson said.
The Port Macquarie housing market continued with strong results for sellers, with the median house price $520,000 up by 11.8 percent or $55,000, with Dr Wilson attributing that to the town’s location.
“Port Macquarie has long been an appealing location for investors and buyers alike. Another strong quarter, in line with a healthy year, makes this market a promising prospect for the remainder of the year,” he said.
High-speed broadband will be key for future economic growth. Presently, access varies greatly. However, the need for speed will be satisfied by the end of the year, with the National Broadband Network officially beginning its construction and roll-out of high-speed broadband in the area.
Around 21,000 premises in Port Macquarie and surrounding areas including Thrumster, North Shore and Fernbank Creek will receive fixed line by the middle of the year, while another 7,000 homes in Port will be connected by the end of the year.
