I encourage all residents to prepare and create or update their bushfire survival plans. Since July 1, our firefighters have attended more than 5000 fires in NSW, burning more than 93,000 hectares.
Know the risk and what you will do if faced with a fire. Have a bushfire survival plan. Keep informed on the weekend by checking the Fires Near Me app and listening to local radio.
More details on the Bush Fire Danger Period, how to get a Fire Permit, cigarette tossing fines and Total Fire Bans are available at rfs.nsw.gov.au.
Young drivers’ licence changes
The state government has announced major improvements to the state’s highly successful Graduated Licensing Scheme to ensure new drivers are safe drivers on our roads.
The NSW licensing system for young drivers is already one of the safest in the world and the changes from November 20, will improve how the scheme prepares novice drivers, especially young drivers, to be safer.
P-platers make up 8 per cent of all licensed drivers, yet their crashes account for 15 per cent of all fatalities on NSW roads. Since its introduction, there has been a 50 per cent reduction in the number of young drivers killed on NSW roads.
Changes to the Graduated Licensing Scheme:
- Learner drivers will have to complete the Hazard Perception Test before they can take the driving test; P1 drivers will no longer have to complete the Hazard Perception Test to get their P2 licence; The Driver Qualification Test has been removed for P2 Drivers and in its place; P2 drivers will have to stay on their licence for an extra 6 months if they receive a suspension for unsafe driving behaviour.
