About 8.20am on Monday, July 10, a Nissan Navara utility was being driven south on the Pacific Highway at Heron’s Creek by a 32-year-old woman, with a 31-year-old male passenger in the front seat.
About 2.5 kilometres south of Aintree Close, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
As a result of the impact, the passenger sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.
Other motorists stopped at the crash scene and assisted the driver, who was uninjured. She was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital for observation.
Officers from the Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries into the incident.
As a result of their investigation, the driver has now been charged with negligent driving causing death.
The Queensland woman is due to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on October 30, 2017.
