Saints, on a high after the upset of the round the week before against the other Saints division one team, couldn’t bring the same intensity to the big game.
The very well drilled, disciplined Wauchope team, won the game 45-15.
Donna Lewis, coach of the Wauchope side, was full of praise for her team.
“Our goal was to end the season undefeated and we ticked that goal,” she said.
“The girls have been playing together for quite a few seasons now, and work extremely well together.”
Lewis was also full of admiration for her young opposition.
“I’m not going to say bad luck to you, I am saying congratulations. Congratulations for making the grand final of division one,” she said after the game.
“You have a young strong team. Stay together for the next few years, and you will be formidable opposition,” she said of the team that is made up of 14 and 15 year olds.
Wauchope were also champions in division two and three, with their division two team coming back in a thriller against Saints to win 37-36.
