Winter weather | temperatures to hit 30 on the Mid North Coast

Temperatures are set to soar across the Mid North Coast on Wednesday with Kempsey topped to reach 31 degrees.

This is 10 above the long-term average (measured over 30 years) for the month of August.

Other towns will hit above average highs including Coffs Harbour which is likely to reach 30 degrees and both Port Macquarie and Taree set to reach 29.

More forecasts for Wednesday here:

The last time Kempsey experienced such winter heat was in 2009 when the August top hit 36 degrees.

Further afield Sydney and Newcastle could enjoy temperatures of up to 28 degrees on Wednesday.

And according to Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain, there’s not much rain on the radar.

“There’s no significant rainfall forecast for the foreseeable future.”

There are only “slight signs” of rain for the following weekend.

But while the temperature will be warmer than we’re used to this time of year it’s nowhere near the state record for August at 37.8 degrees at the border of NSW and Queensland in Mungindi in 2009.
