She hopes the money she raises will buy computers for Greg and Colleen.
Tess works at Curly’s Cafe in Wauchope and they’re helping her effort by having a Devonshire tea on Wednesday July 19 at 2.30pm. $10 per person includes a lucky door ticket.
The Wauchope woman says she’s fond of her drink.
“I like to go down to the RSL in Wauchope every afternoon with the boys, and have my four pints, and I go home and probably have a half a bottle of red wine,” she said.
That adds up to $230 per week.
“So I thought: why don’t I put these money to good use for something close to my heart?” said Tess, who was born and bred in PNG and has done volunteer work there, before moving to the Hastings.
“My family still keep in contact in many ways. We were raised and had a good life there, so my brother now sends shipping containers to the hospitals and schools through Rotary,” says Tess.
The children she will help were in a class she taught.
“If people who come into Curly’s could donate five or ten cents or whatever, it would be great,” said Tess, who is drinking more tea than ever.
If you want to help, you can call into Curly’s cafe at Timbertown shopping centre, or go to their fundraising Devonshire tea next Wednesday July 19. RSVP by Monday on 6585 2505.
