The sessions are being presented in partnership with Dying with Dignity Mid North Coast.
It will be an opportunity for Dying with Dignity Mid North Coast members and other interested local residents to be directly consulted on the Draft Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2017 (NSW), which was released publicly in May.
The event will be attended by Trevor Khan, deputy president and Chair of Committees and Member of the Working Group.
“Since the release of the Draft Bill, the Working Group has invited up to 70 specialist organisations and groups, including Dying with Dignity Mid North Coast, to have their views heard on the framework developed in the Bill,” Trevor Khan said.
“It is incumbent on the Working Group however to also hear from the wider community across NSW, to ensure that the framework in the Draft Bill meets the high expectations of the community on this particular issue.
“I look forward to consulting directly with Port Macquarie residents, and hearing their suggestions for how the Working Group can ensure voluntary assisted dying can be achieved in NSW.”
The NSW Parliamentary Working Group on Assisted Dying consists of Trevor Khan (Nationals), Lynda Voltz (Labor), Mehreen Faruqi (Greens), Lee Evans (Liberal), and Alex Greenwich (Independent).
The community information session will be hosted at the Rushcutters Room, Port Panthers, from 11am – 1pm.
The Bill can be accessed on the NSW Parliamentary Counsel’s website www.legislation.nsw.gov.au
Submissions and comment on the Bill can be made by July 17 to voluntaryassisteddying@parliament.nsw.gov.au
